Throughout the month of October B O D Y will be publishing poetry by poets from across the United Kingdom & Ireland.
If you think poems written by poets from across the Atlantic all have rhymes lined up like ducks (to paraphrase Irish poet Justin Quinn) you may be surprised at the sheer variety of styles and forms employed by contemporary British and Irish poets – and just how good, fresh, and exciting even older forms can be in the right hands.
While British and Irish poetry is uncategorizable in any broader contemporary sense, when you read enough of it all together, a certain sensibility comes through. It’s definitely not American. The poets reflect a sensibility that is ingrained in their weather, their landscapes, their cities, their pop culture and their history. In short: their own unique vision of the world.
This October, we’ll presenting some well-known names, and some which may be unfamiliar to our readers outside the UK and Ireland. It’s going to be an exciting month, and a very interesting one. Come back and visit us throughout October as we bring you some of the best and most innovative writing by poets writing in English from across the wet and windy isles.
